Goebel is a 10-time PBA Tour champion who won his lone major in the 1998 Brunswick World Tournament of Champions. His career was also highlighted by a breakout season in 1994 when he won three titles. In the 1993 Japan Cup, he nearly rolled a televised perfect game but left a 10 pin on his final ball of the second televised match when he defeated Japan’s Masaaki Saijyo, 299-268. He had another opportunity for a televised perfect game in the 1994 when he came up high on his 12th shot, leaving the 3-6-9-10 in a 296-280 victory over Norm Duke (Duke's 280 is still the highest losing score ever rolled on television) in the True Value Open.
