Nakano is the driving force behind the PBA Tour's Japan Cup invitational tournament, first held in 1985, which features the top 16 players from the PBA Tour and the top 16 from the Japan Professional Bowlers Association (JPBA). As President of Eastern Sports, Ltd., his company initially was the sole investor in the Japan Cup. Thirteen years later, this tournament boasts the largest budget of any single event, including the $50,000 first prize in addition to the unprecedented hospitality shown to PBA players, family, friends and support staff. In addition to his work on the Japan Cup, Nakano is one of the world's top activists in lobbying for bowling's inclusion as an Olympic medal sport, traveling in pursuit of his goal with his own financial resources. Another "hat" Nakano wears is as President of Japan's Bowling Proprietors Association (JBPA).
