Fahy Fights Back
Mark Fahy, a 25-year-old former Golden Gloves amateur boxer, called on his urge to do battle and, as a result, savored his first PBA title -the Miller High Life Open. Fahy battled back with six strikes in his final eight shots for a 234-225 victory against Tom Baker, which netted him a check for $27,000. The victory was a big personal comeback for the 1981 Sporting News PBA Rookie of the Year. In the first game, Baker ousted former collegiate star Steve Martin, 247-182, and then topped yet another non-champion, Amleto Monacelli, 211-191. The semifinal match brought together Baker and Mike Durbin, who just two years earlier won this same event with a 791 three-game series, but Durbin went down to defeat, 227-191. CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND
