St. John Detroit Champ
Jim St. John, of San Jose, Calif. had too much horsepower for the rest of the field as he sped to his fourth Professional Bowlers Association tournament title in the $27,500 Continental Open.
The ex-sailor, who qualified in the fourth spot by shooting 5043 for 24 games, took the lead in the sixth game of the finals and never was headed.
The position round game (No. 16) was just a formality as St. John held a180-pin lead over Dick Weber of St. Louis going in. Weber took that last match, 239-199, to finish second.
Norm Meyers of Los Angeles led the 24-game qualifier but faded to 12th place when he won but five of his 16 games in the finals.
