Froberg Leads PBA60 Roth Championship, Warren Leads PBA60 World Championship
Columbus, Ohio – It has been a tale of two tournaments so far at the 2026 PBA60 World Series of Bowling II for William "Billy" Froberg. He finished the Webb Championship in 113th place and knew something was off with his game. The USBC Silver Coach watched a few videos after the Webb Championship then practiced at a nearby bowling center.
"I took a couple of videos and watched BowlTV. I kind of had a feeling it was happening," he said. "My swing has been getting way too steep and my trajectory into the lane was all over the place. So I worked on a much flatter swing."
The practice lesson worked as the Michigan native had games of 216, 210, 209, 260, 279, 245, 279 and 234 for a total pinfall of 1,929 on Sunday during qualifying for the Roth Championship.
"I switched balls halfway through the first game and used it the rest of the day. Some of the pairs were hooking more than others. I bet I moved maybe five boards with my feet left all day," Froberg said. "I felt good because it had been awhile since I had a really good day like that. Now that I am confident instead of feeling like I am behind the 8-ball, I think it will go pretty well."
He improved by nearly 500 pins from Friday to Sunday, yet he just missed out on qualifying for the World Championship. He took over the Roth Championship lead from Pete Weber in Game 7. Weber had games of 238, 257, 255, 226, 226, 235, 224 and 246 for 1,907. Weber missed only one spare on the day, which came in Game 8.
Behind Froberg and Weber is Chris Warren in third at 1,885, James Campbell is fourth at 1,836 and Mitch Sacks rounds out the top five at 1,814. Johnnie Payne earned the final spot in the Roth Championship with 1,749.
The top 16 players will advance to bracket match play best-three-out-of-five matches scheduled to start at 11 a.m. Eastern on Monday with the Round of 8 best-three-out-of-five matches starting at 3 p.m. ET. The four undefeated winners and the highest seeded eliminated bowler in the Round of 8 will be in the stepladder finals set to start at 6 p.m.
The top 18 overall bowlers after 16 games of qualifying in the Webb and Roth Championship qualified for the PBA60 World Championship. The top five are Chris Warren, defending champion and Webb Championship winner Jack Jurek, Pete Weber, Amleto Monacelli and Johnnie Payne.
All qualifying pins carry over into three six-game match play rounds scheduled to start at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. ET on Tuesday then at 2 p.m. ET on Wednesday. After the 18 games, the top five will compete in the stepladder finals at 6 p.m. ET Wednesday for the chance to win a major title.
