The Villages, Florida – Tom Adcock gave his wife, Mary, a nice seventh anniversary gift on Sunday. He climbed into first place after two days of qualifying at the PBA50 The Villages Classic. He averaged 246 with games of 246, 237, 235, 278, 226 and 255.

“Patience was the word of the day for me. I did not feel as sharp when we started. The ball is absolutely matched up to the lanes and there was no reason for me to take it out of my hand,” Adcock said. “I got a lot of nice breaks early as I was trying to get my timing back together. Obviously, I am striking a lot.”

To get his timing on point, he played further left than he did on Saturday and slowed his ball speed down so he could circle it more. The last few months while at home in Illinois, he worked on his timing trying to keep his hand inside the ball. He wondered how and if his efforts would translate into his overall game and the results are showing.

“Last week was really good and this week is even better. It is really starting to pick up,” Adcock said.

Andres Gomez, who led Day 1 of qualifying, fought hard on Sunday to end the day in third place behind Adcock and C. K. Moore. Brad Angelo shot 299 in his final game of the day Sunday to move into fourth place and Jason Couch is in fifth place.

“I didn’t have a very good look on the fresh. I decided to go with urethane. Once the lanes started to transition, I felt a little more comfortable, but they were very tricky,” Gomez said. “It looked like a round that could have been a bad one and I somehow was able to finish +121, which I think is very good for how the lanes played.”

Gomez shot 196, 222, 236, 187, 235 and 245. He is not sure what to expect next on the double burn, but he plans to stay patient and observant.

On Monday, Adcock, Moore and the rest of C-squad will be bowling on the fresh oil pattern starting at 9 a.m. Eastern followed by A-squad at 1 p.m. and B-squad at 5 p.m.  The top 60 players at the end of qualifying will move into the Advancers Round on Tuesday morning. You can watch day three of qualifying on BowlTV.
