Las Vegas, Nevada – Everyone on the PBA50 Tour knew he was coming, and it was just a matter of time. After finishing 12th, ninth and sixth in his first three tournaments, Tom Daugherty got his win. It wasn’t just any victory; he won a major title in the 2025 USBC Senior Masters against a field of more than 300 bowlers.

After earning the No. 1 overall seed when he defeated qualifying leader Parker Bohn III on Saturday night, Daugherty was able to beat the left-hander again in the championship match at Sam’s Town Bowling Center, 233-185.

Daugherty, who has won four titles, including a major, on the PBA Tour, started the match with a strike followed by a 7-10 split. He bounced back quickly rolling five straight strikes as Bohn III struggled to carry.

“It is hard to believe he (Bohn III) hasn’t won one of these (Senior Masters). He told me he used all of his luck to win the regular Masters, so he said he wouldn’t trade it for the world. But he is going to get one,” Daugherty said. “He leads it every year, it is just a matter of getting the right draw and maybe he can get on a pair where he can strike. He bowled amazing all week; I just got lucky to catch him on the right pairs.”

In the opening match, No. 5 seed James Campbell was looking to make history by becoming the first bowler to win the USBC Super Senior Classic and the Senior Masters in the same year. Campbell had an early split for an open in the second frame and rebounded with three straight strikes. Yet, his opponent Mika Koivuniemi struck in frames four through nine for the 249-204 win.

There were even more strikes in the second match. After picking up a 10-pin in the first frame, Koivuniemi rolled the next six strikes. Anthony “Tony” Franklin started with a three-bagger in his first-ever PBA50 Tour stepladder finals appearance. Unfortunately, in the fourth frame, his delivery went through the nose resulting in the 3-5-6-7-10 split for an open. After a single-pin spare, Franklin ended the match with seven straight strikes for 249. Koivuniemi struck on three of his final five shots for 268.

Next up was a hall-of-fame battle between Bohn III and Koivuniemi. Bohn III started the match with five consecutive strikes as Koivuniemi rolled a double followed by two spares. In the fifth frame, Koivuniemi switched from throwing urethane to a reactive ball and he left the 4-6-7 split for an open. He responded with five straight strikes yet his climb up the stepladder came to an end as Bohn III got the win 247-232.

Next up for the PBA50 Tour is another major championship. The 2025 Senior U.S. Open begins on Thursday in Colorado. John Janawicz is the defending champion.
