Tom Daugherty earns No. 1 seed for USBC Senior Masters stepladder
Las Vegas, Nevada – PBA50 Tour rookie Tom Daugherty had himself an impressive day on Saturday at Sam’s Town Bowling Center. The Florida native came in as the second seed and he averaged 243.83 over 12 games of double-elimination match-play to go undefeated in the 2025 USBC Senior Masters.
In his Senior Masters debut, the right-hander shot 743, 721 and 745 before defeating #1 Parker Bohn III 717-628 to earn the top overall seed for the stepladder finals. As the top seed, Daugherty would have to be defeated twice. The 50-year-old is looking to make his first senior title a major and collect the $20,000 first-place prize.
Bohn III was cruising early on in his matches shooting 738, 696 and 771 before his loss to Daugherty dropped him to the No. 2 seed. Anthony “Tony” Franklin of Texas will be seeking his first senior tour title, as well. He started his Saturday by defeating Mika Koivuniemi 743-732 and Butch Cormier 673-592 before a loss to Bohn III knocked him into the contender’s bracket.
Koivuniemi was clearly fired up after his loss to Franklin. The Finland native responded by averaging 248 for 15 games with 771, 723, 720 and 774 before shooting 720 in the four players for three spots three-game total-pinfall final match. Franklin rolled the highest series at 739 to earn the No. 3 seed followed by Koivuniemi in fourth.
James Campbell, who won the 2025 USBC Super Senior Classic on June 1, is looking to make more history. No bowler has ever won the Super Senior Classic and the Senior Masters in the same year, let alone within a week of each other. He shot 679 to earn the fifth spot in the stepladder finals, scheduled to start at 1 p.m. Eastern on Sunday on BowlTV.
