Chris Barnes Extends Lead at PBA50 World Championship
Jackson, Michigan – For the third straight year in the PBA50 World Series of Bowling, Chris Barnes is leading the way going into the grand finale, the World Championship.
Mark Clark jumped into first place by 18 pins thanks to his 5-1 round-robin match play record in the morning block on Friday. Coming off his 2025 PBA50 Holman Championship win on Thursday, Barnes returned in the afternoon with his second 4-2 record on the day to retake the lead.
Barnes is currently 55 pins ahead of John Janawicz, who is seeking to achieve the Senior Super Slam by winning the World Championship. Clark is 40 pins behind Janawicz in third place at +1,348. Tom Daugherty is fourth at +1,136 and Brad Angelo is fifth at +1,084.
Clark recorded the best overall match play record at 10-2, while Angelo made the biggest jump. His 8-4 record moved him from 15th place to fifth. Angelo finished in second in last year's World Championship. Another big mover up the leaderboard was James Krafft. He went from 11th to sixth sitting only 4-pins behind Angelo.
Tom Hess, who is also trying to win the World Championship and achieve the Senior Super Slam, is 61 pins behind Angelo sitting in ninth place. Hess posted the highest block of the day with 1,382. Defending champion Mario Quintero is sitting in 16th place.
If either Janawicz or Hess win the World Championship, they will become the first bowler to ever win the Senior Super Slam. This includes winning the Masters, U.S. Open, Tournament of Champions, Players Championship and World Championship.
Janawicz is currently leading the PBA50 in points, which is how the Player of the Year race is decided. Daugherty, who is the only bowler so far to make two stepladder finals during this World Series of Bowling III, is second in points and first in total earnings. This is Daugherty’s rookie season.
There is no doubt Barnes will be doing everything he can to win back-to-back tournaments. If he wins again, that would be the fifth time Barnes has won a PBA50 tournament at JAX 60. Last year, he finished in third place in the World Championship.
The final six games of round-robin match play will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday to determine the top five bowlers for the stepladder finals, which is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. on Saturday. The winner will earn a major championship title and the $25,000 first-place check. Catch the final day at the World Championship only on BowlTV.
