Westland, Michigan – After experiencing tears of frustration at the conclusion of the PBA50 World Series of Bowling III last week, Brad Angelo was crying tears of joy on Thursday. He was clearly determined to move forward, and he was unstoppable in the 2025 PBA50 Hamtramck Singles Classic.

“I teach people through BowlU that you have to learn to keep fighting. How many peaks and valleys are there in a tournament? You have to keep fighting and that is a life lesson, as well,” Angelo said. “Last week, I haven’t been that disappointed in a long time, so this is gratifying.”

After keeping a hold of the top seed through the advancers round, he won his first match against lefty Andy Rettig then he defeated lefty Troy Lint with games of 279 and 244 in the Round of 8. He maintained the No. 1 seed in his fourth stepladder finals appearance on the season.

“We both threw quality shots. I had to get up and perform in the 10th against Troy and I told myself, ‘Just let it go.’ I had been striking as much as I ever have, so just get it off your hand,” Angelo said. “I threw a great shot to be able to solidify the one seed. Troy is a great friend, and I was happy he made the show.”

Lint was the highest seeded non-winner in the Round of 8, which earned him the No. 5 seed. Lint powered his way into that title match against Angelo. Angelo elected to have Lint start the match first. Lint began with a double and spare, as Angelo doubled and converted the 3-10 split. Angelo put together four straight strikes that included a couple of fist pumps, especially when the 10-pin fell late in the seventh frame.

“In that moment, that was huge. I told myself to make another good shot and that kept the pressure on Troy,” Angelo said. “I think it had a lot to do with how I was playing the lanes. My ball speed was higher than normal, so I had more impact speed. I got more pin carry.”

Lint struck in his fourth frame yet followed that up with three spares before getting another strike in the eighth and a spare in the ninth. Angelo stepped up in the ninth rolling another strike, picked up a 3-pin and hugged Lint. Angelo ended up with 237 and Lint struck out for 216.

This was Angelo’s third career PBA50 Tour title and second of the year after winning The Villages Classic in May. Only he and Chris Barnes have won twice this year.

“I feel phenomenal. The day after I won at The Villages, I honestly did not know how to feel. It had been so long and there was so much disappointment,” he said. “I think that was wearing on me a little last week. All of those tears that were shed were cleansing and things went my way. Troy bowled phenomenal and I am so proud of him. He is definitely back.”

Angelo always wears two bracelets on his wrist as good luck charms that are from his daughters, Brielle and Ryleigh. This time he also wore a special custom jersey that made him cry while talking about it.

“I had been saving this jersey. I wanted to wear it the next time I made a show. This is my son, Dylan, he is pursuing a golf career right now. My daughter, Ryleigh, is heavily into equestrian, and this is my beautiful daughter, Brielle. They are everything,” he said through tears. “They are the reason I do all of this. It is so hard to be out here away from them. But boy, it was extra special having my children here with me to wear them proudly on my jersey.”

In the opening match, Lint faced No. 4 seed Chris Barnes. This was Lint’s first stepladder finals since last season. Barnes began with four straight spares before rolling his first strike on a ball change in the fifth frame. Lint started with a strike followed by three single-pin spares before getting a double. Barnes came back with two spares, as Lint split for an open in the seventh then a spare. Barnes finished strike, spare, spare and strike for 191, as Lint closed it out with four strikes in a row for 214.

Lint kept the strikes coming against Bill Rowe. The left-hander started with three strikes before a split in the fourth followed by a double. Rowe, from Canada, began strike, spare, strike then he chopped the 3-6 for an open frame. Rowe picked up a 7-pin before doubling. The right-hander then chopped the 2-pin off the 2-8. Lint picked up three straight spares before closing out the match with three strikes for 222. Rowe struck out for 194.

The semifinal match saw two-left handers on fire. Lint and Parker Bohn III threw strikes back and forth through five frames. Bohn III was the first not to strike, leaving a solid 8-pin in the sixth. Lint’s run made it to seven straight before picking up the 2-4-7 and striking for the fifth time on the left lane. Bohn III went strike, spare and strike through the ninth frame.

With Bohn III finishing first, he stepped out his first delivery to the right for a flush strike. After a rerack, he released his ball and went down to his left knee as he struck again. He finished it out with a nine-count for 258. After delivering a strike on his first shot, Lint jumped up and clenched his fist. He struck again and hugged Bohn III. Lint finished with his 11th strike for 277.

The final tournament of the season is the Johnny Petraglia BVL PBA50 Tournament of Champions presented by Pleasant Day Schools. That event will begin on Aug. 6 at Suburban Lanes in Morgantown, W.Va. You can watch that tournament only on BowlTV.
