Brian LeClair Leads Day 1 at USBC Senior Masters
Las Vegas, Nevada – One of the biggest senior tournaments of the year is underway at Sam’s Town Bowling Center. The 2024 USBC Senior Masters features a field of 312 players from across the country and even the world. After the first five-games of qualifying on Tuesday, Brian LeClair is at the top of the leaderboard. Bowling in the C-squad on the double burn, he shot 248, 276, 247, 248 and 268 for 1,287, a 257.40 average.
Just behind LeClair is left-hander Jason Couch, who won the first PBA50 Tour title of the season. He had games of 230, 278, 268, 269 and 213 for 1,258. Comparing Monday’s practice session to Tuesday’s qualifying block, Couch felt the lanes played the same. He saw the same ball reaction and stuck with the same ball for all five games of qualifying.
“When you know you have a good look, you just try and stay out of your own way,” Couch said. “To bowl that kind of a block the first block feels good.”
He knows it is a long week of competition, but getting out to a strong start inside a center he is already comfortable bowling in helps his confidence. Couch is followed by Andres Gomez, Jon Rakoski and Brian Dennis, to round out the top five. Four bowlers shot 300, including Anthony Jovanovich, John Colfax, Chris Barnes and Michael Hartter, who ended the day on the C-squad with his perfect game.
Day two of qualifying begins a 11 a.m. Eastern with the B-squad followed by the C-squad starting at 3 p.m. ET and finally the A-squad at 7 p.m. all on BowlTV. The final day of qualifying is on Thursday.
