Fifty games of qualifying are in the books at the Guaranteed Rate PBA World Series of Bowling XIV. Just 10 games remain at Bowlero Wauwatosa outside of Milwaukee.

On Thursday, players began qualifying for the PBA Shark Championship. Through 10 games, Packy Hanrahan and Matt Ogle share the lead with a total pinfall of 2,307 (+307).

Jason Belmonte and Anthony Simonsen sit in third and fourth place, respectively, while Dom Barrett and Shawn Maldonado are tied for fifth at +240.

Hanrahan made a massive surge up the standings during the evening round. The two-handed southpaw shot 1,242, averaging over 248 for those five games.

“The second block, I just tried to keep it simple,” Hanrahan said. “If I saw a hook, move right; if I didn't see hook, move left. I managed my speed, (throwing it slower) to get it to pick up earlier, and throwing a little harder to get it to go a little further downlane.”

After Friday’s final 10 games of qualifying, the top five players will advance to the PBA Shark Championship finals to be held Wednesday, April 20 at 7 p.m. ET on FS1.

Additionally, the top 12 players in the PBA World Championship standings — which combines qualifying scores from the PBA Cheetah, Scorpion and Shark Championships — will advance to match play, taking place Thursday, April 20.

Hanrahan, who finished seventh in the PBA Cheetah Championship at +624 and 29th at the PBA Scorpion Championship at +276, climbed into fifth in the PBA World Championship standings. In an attempt to make both remaining cuts, Hanrahan said he needs to execute the same gameplan as he has all week.

“I can't worry about the score,” Hanrahan said. “Scores either come or they don’t. I’ve just got to have fun and make as many good shots as possible. When the scoreboard is all finished, if I'm up there, I'm up there and if I'm not, I did all I could.”

Jakob Butturff, who reached the championship round at the PBA Cheetah and Scorpion Championships, maintained his lead in the PBA World Championship. Finland’s Santtu Tahvanainen moved into second place, while Anthony Simonsen, EJ Tackett and Hanrahan round out the top five.

Belmonte, Bill O’Neill and moved Maldonado into the top 12 during Thursday’s competition. Jesper Svensson is in 12th place at +954, though a dozen players are within 100 pins of the Swedish star. Stu Williams, Marshall Kent and Kyle Troup are less than 30 pins behind Svensson.

Players resume competition at noon ET on Friday at Bowlero Wauwatosa.
