Lennie Boresch Jr. leads PBA50 David Small’s Championship Lanes Open
Anderson, Indiana – Lennie Boresch Jr. is looking to add to the success he has already had in 2022 at the PBA50 David Small’s Championship Lanes Open.
On Monday, the Wisconsin native jumped to the top of the leaderboard. He posted scores of 225, 228, 238, 268, 205, 216 and 232 for a two-day total of 3,229, an average of 230.64, mainly using his Storm Nova, which he refers to as “Old Faithful.” He shaped the ball the same way he did on Sunday, but this time he played further right and straighter.
“When the lanes play that way, I tend to have success,” he said. “I tried about three or four balls and one seemed to strike (Nova). It’s kind of my benchmark ball that I tend to use a lot.”
Earlier this season, Boresch Jr. won the PBA Senior U.S. Open, finished fourth in All-Events in the regular division at the USBC Open Championships, and took second place at the USBC Super Senior Classic. He turned 60 in April, he has made three stepladder finals, and continues to put himself in contention.
“It has been a career year,” he said. “Normally, I would probably not bowl this many tournaments, but I have been bowling pretty well, so it’s been great.”
Boresch Jr. is in first by six pins over Chris Barnes. Warren Eales is in third followed by Tom Adcock. Defending champion Parker Bohn III moved into fifth place after finishing qualifying with a 299.
The final players to make the cut were Dennis Carlin and Jeff Cyphers tied at 2,960. The top 28 will bowl five games in the advancers round starting at 9 a.m. ET Tuesday. The top 24 will move on to bracket match play three-game sets. Once the final five players are determined they will bowl in the stepladder finals 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
