Miller Takes Over the Lead at 2021 USBC Super Senior Classic
Las Vegas, Nevada – Lefty Hugh Miller posted two days of consistent scores to earn the top spot on the leaderboard after qualifying rounds at the 2021 USBC Super Senior Classic. And he is likely looking for a bit of redemption.
The Mercer Island, Washington native was the runner-up at the 2019 USBC Super Senior Classic and on Saturday, he bowled a 730 series in his final three games for a six-game total of 1,355 to go with his 1,354 from Friday. He holds a 12-pin lead over fellow A squad bowler Glenn Smith with 2,697.
Day one leader Amleto Monacelli battled through the final day of qualifying on Saturday. He shot 218, 208, 204, 168, 237 and 228 for 1,263. His 12-game total of 2,677 puts him in 3rd, averaging 223.08 average. He is followed by Ed Silva in 4th and Walter Ray Williams Jr. has moved into 5th place.
There was some extra bowling inside Sam's Town Bowling Center for Kevin Foley and Greg Turner who tied for the final spot in the top 40. They bowled a one-game roll-off and Foley won 203-190.
The 2019 USBC Super Senior Classic defending champion Ty Dawson was 3-pins behind Foley and Turner and missed the cut.
The top 40 will now compete in a Cashers’ Round for six-games beginning at Noon EST on Sunday. After that, the top 12 will bowl six-games of head-to-head round-robin match play starting at 6 p.m. EST. The field will be divided into two even groups with the chance to earn a spot in a group stepladder. You can watch the rest of the tournament live on BowlTV.com.
