Wauwatosa, Wis. – Two PBA Regional titles were awarded at the coveted Petersen Classic in August with Jake Peters of Henderson, Nev. winning the PBA Petersen Classic Midwest/Central Championship and Jeff Johnson of Freeport, Ill., capturing the PBA50 Petersen Classic Midwest/Central Championship.

The competition was close in the PBA Petersen Classic Midwest/Central Championship with the top four bowlers (Peters, Toby Sambueno, Jonathan Schalow, and Quinton Bohlen) separated by only 60 pins heading into the position round final game. Two strong games in the position round allowed Peters and Sambueno of Henderson, Nev. to leap from second to first, and fourth to second, respectively.

Peters rolled a 235 to defeat Schalow of Evansville, Wis. at the same time Sambueno rolled 238 to best Bohlen of Milwaukee, Wis. Peters won $1,400 for first, Sambueno $875 for second, Schalow $555 for third, and Bohlen earned $450 for fourth.

In the PBA50 Petersen Classic Midwest/Central Championship, Jeff Johnson of Freeport, Ill. suffered only one loss in match play to earn the top position. Tom Adcock of Decatur, Ill. was close behind Johnson up to the position round game, but just as he dominated in match play, Johnson rolled a 254 to Adcock’s 207. Johnson earned $1,400 for the win and Adcock pocketed $875 for second.

Lennie Boresch, Jr. of Kenosha, Wis., took third for $555 and Steve Wiemer of Springfield, Mo., earned $450 for his fourth-place finish. Wiemer led for most of the tournament, succumbing to Johnson in the second half of match play. Boresch was solid throughout qualifying and match play and was always in contention.

The pinnacle of the both events was the presentation of the championship trophy where Peters and Johnson each earned a Petersen Classic bowling pin, with all the wear and tear.

The PBA will kick off the Petersen Classic in 2022.

The next PBA50 Midwest Region tournament is at Rose Bowl in Muscatine, Iowa for the Mike Berlin Classic on Oct. 8-10. The tournament will be historic as it will be the first time the Midwest Region will host a PBA Regional, PBA50, and a PBA women’s tournament at the same time and place.
