Fayetteville, N.C. (Mar. 14, 2021) – Walter Ray Williams Jr. of Oxford, Florida, defeated Dave Johnson of Ashtabula, Ohio in the championship match on Sunday’s PBA50 Fayetteville South Open at Lafayette Lanes to win his record-breaking 119th PBA title. Williams won by 12 pins, 257-245.

Both players started out strong in the final match, with Johnson rolling a five bagger and Williams with seven straight strikes. William’s lead was too much for Johnson to overcome, with Williams securing the win with a double in the tenth frame.

Johnson, who qualified in the number two position in the 16-man bracket elimination finals secured two byes and faced Don Herrington of Ballston Lake, N.Y. in the semifinal match and won 239-207 to advance to the finals.

In the other semifinal match Williams faced the number one qualifier from Yorktown, Va., Troy McKinney, who gave Williams a run, but he prevailed with a 289-257 win.

Williams received $2,200 for his 119th overall title, which includes wins from the PBA National Tour, PBA50 National Tour and PBA Regional titles combined.

Johnson earned $1,200 for his second-place finish, while McKinney and Herrington each took home $1,000.

The PBA South Region’s next tournament will be the PBA50 Lehigh Lanes Open in Lehigh, Fla., April 14-16.
