Corning, N.Y. – Ryan Shafer of Horseheads, N.Y. posted a 7-1 match play record to earn a 183-pin victory over Brian LeClair of Albany, N.Y. in the PBA50 Crystal Lanes Open in Corning, N.Y. on Sunday.

Shafer and LeClair both dominated the competition throughout the weekend event with Shafer leading the morning qualifying squad and LeClair leading the afternoon squad. LeClair, who was struggling to find a good ball reaction early, made a strategic equipment change after the fourth of eight qualifying games.

In the final four games, LeClair averaged in excess of 281 to become the overall qualifying leader, but Shafer secured the win with a better match play record.

Both Shafer and LeClair rolled 300 games, splitting a $250 bonus donated by Ray Scrivens. Additionally, each earned a $100 squad leader bonus donated by Ken Crozier.

The win was Schafer’s 32nd career regional title and was worth $2,000. LeClair earned $1,000 as the runner up. Last weekend’s champion Dave Wodka of Muskegon, Mich. finished third, earning $925 while reigning East Region Senior Player of the Year Troy Lint of Blandon, Pa. finished fourth and earned $850.

Many of the senior bowlers will be making their way to Florida for the beginning of the PBA50 Tour while the next East Region event will be April 16-18 at AMF Towson Lanes in Towson, Md.
