ABERDEEN, N.C. – Cristian Azcona of Clermont, Fla., defeated Ryan Ciminelli of Lancaster, S.C., 248-238, to win the PBA Daniel Adams Construction Open for his 3rd PBA Regional title on Sunday at Sand Hills Bowling Center.

Azcona qualified in the number one position for the four-man stepladder finals with a 17-game total of 3,767 pins, 27 pins ahead of Mike Coffey of Melbourne, Fla., with 3,740. In third was Ryan Ciminelli with 3,717 pins, followed by Colin Champion of Spring Hill, Fla., in fourth with 3,710.

In the opening match, Ciminelli defeated Champion,266-205. Ciminelli then disposed of Coffey, 238-203, to advance to the Championship title match.

In the title match, both players started with open frames, Ciminelli took the early lead with a six bagger while Azcona had a spare followed by a six bagger. The match was close and came down to the tenth frame where Azcona finished first with 248. Ciminelli needed to double in the tenth to take the title, but a stubborn 10 pin gave Azcona the win. Azcona earned $3,200 for the first-place prize.

Ciminelli pocketed $1,700 for second, Coffey $1,400 for third, and Champion earned $1200 for fourth.

The PBA South Region’s next event will be the PBA Spring Hill Open on July 9-11 at Spring Hill Lanes in Spring Hill, Fla.
