Clinton, Iowa – Tom Hess of Granger, Iowa, defeated A.J Johnson of Oswego, Ill. in the championship match, 224-207, to win the PBA Plaza Lanes Midwest Open at Plaza Lanes on Sunday.

Johnson held the lead almost exclusively throughout the event, compiling an 8-4 match play record and 20-game 4685 total pin-fall, including bonus pins, heading into the stepladder finals. Hess made a late charge with four games remaining in the match play round to move up to second place prior to the stepladder finals.

In the championship match, Hess threw a strike in the 10th frame to secure the victory while Johnson looked on in defeat.

Hess earned $2,100 for the win, while adding a twelfth overall PBA Regional Tour title to his career total. Johnson earned $1,250 as the runner-up.
