Wallingford, Conn. – Ryan Shafer of Horseheads, N.Y. and Kerry Smith of Lititz, Pa., dominated the competition to win the PBA/PBA50 New England Over/Under Doubles presented by buddiesproshop.com, Cambridge Credit Counseling and TechVision on Sunday.

The event consisted of 30 doubles teams, each consisting of one bowler aged 50 and older and one bowler under the age of 50. The teams bowled seven qualifying games on Saturday with the top eight advancing to Sunday’s Round Robin finals. Each bowler competed for 10 bonus pins game and the team with the highest combined total received an additional 30 bonus pins.

Shafer and Smith had been scheduled to bowl a doubles event earlier in the summer that had been cancelled and chose to pair up for this event. They qualified fifth and quickly took the lead in the competition, winning all eight team games plus 110 of the available 160 bonus pins.

The victory was Shafer’s 23rd regional title of his career and Smith’s first career PBA title. Smith, a PWBA player, joined the PBA earlier this year after the 2020 PWBA season was cancelled. The team earned $3,800 for the win. Rick Graham of Elizabethtown, Pa. paired with non-member Philip Drumm of Binghamton, N.Y., finished in second-place earning $2,100.
