Husted Handles Kessler Field

Dave Husted staged three pressure-packed finishes to win his fourth title as he defeated top-seeded Ron Palombi Jr., Erie, Pa., 228-181, in the championship game of the $125,000 Kessler Open.

He proved to be the toughest when he absolutely had to be in winning this title. He swung into action in the second game of the nationally televised finals after Amleto Monacelli had eliminated Norm Duke, 208-168Husted's opponent, Monacelli, opened in the first frame and then notched a four-bagger while Husted was opening with three strikes. When Monacelli finished with three more strikes for a 224, he put the pressure squarely on Husted, who had to strike or lose. He struck and won, 228-224.

Husted's next opponent was Rick Sajek. Sajek missed a 2-4-5-8 cluster in the sixth frame to which Husted responded with five closing strikes to eke out a 218-203 victory.
