AC-Delco Classic

$150,000 AC-DELCO CLASSIC
Union Square Lanes, Union City, Calif., Jan 6-11, 1986

Dandy Start For Randy

The PBA Tour started the new year with a new champion as 23-year-old Randy Pedersen captured the $150,000 AC-Delco Classic.

It was the first national tour victory for the lanky right-hander and he won at Union Square Lanes the hard way.

Pedersen, fourth-seeded into the nationally televised finals, began by eliminating fellow Californian Walter Ray Williams Jr., 204-182. Wayne Webb, who won the AC-Delco Classic at Alameda, Calif., two years ago, was up next, and the stocky Hoosier suffered three splits, including a 1-2-6-7-8-10 in the fifth frame, to go down to a 171-147 defeat.

Second-seeded Rowdy Morrow couldn't topple Pedersen, who triumphed, 224-207.

In the title game, Pedersen and Dennis Jacques both opened in the first frame and were pin for pin through the fifth frame. Pedersen finally doubled to take the lead and added four more closing strikes for a 213-158 victory.
