Pete Weber mastered four opponents and a two-week bout with the flu in waltzing to a four-game victory in the $135,000 Budweiser Open. Weber ousted leading qualifier, Tom Baker, 204-181. Weber's first opponent was veteran Mark Roth, who fell, 213-171. Next up was Marshall Holman and Weber emerged with a 223-178 victory. In his third game Weber rolled his best match, opening with seven strikes, for a 266-180 victory, and setting himself for a run at his seventh PBA title. Baker suffered a 5-7 split in the first frame of the title game. That gave Weber an opening and he quickly jumped to a 13-pin lead, which he protected to the very end when he clinched the title with a strike, spare and strike in the 10th frame.
