Making his first appearance in a championship round, Charlie Lacy thwarted Mike Aulby's bid to win back-to-back titles by defeating Aulby, 227-206, in the $135,000 True Value Open. Lacy fell behind by 20 pins in the title game until Aulby missed a 7-pin in the eighth frame. The 38-year-old Lacy then put together a four-bagger, locking up the $23,000 top prize in the 10th frame. Aulby had downed Gary Skidmore, 244-180, and Jeff Bellinger, 212-167, to get his shot at another title. Skidmore had beaten Guppy Troup, 223-170, making Troup a fifth-place finisher for the second straight week.
