Flashing the early winter form which carried him to a season-opening win and three televised finals, Wayne Webb overpowered three opponents to capture the $125,000 Kessler Open. Webb racked up lopsided wins over Mike Durbin, 226-279, and Mike Lettick, 257-160, who was making his first championship round appearance. In the title game, top-seeded Gil Sliker missed a 10-pin in the second frame and never recovered as Webb coasted, 236-189, for the $18,000 top prize at Earl Anthony's Dublin Bowl. It was the 26-year-old Webb's 14th PBA victory, Included among them the Kessler Classic in Indianapolis in 1980.
