Baker Bakes

As the weather warmed up on the Winter Tour, Mark Baker sizzled, winning the $150,000 Miller High Life Classic in Miami and the $27,000 top prize.

Baker won three games, including a 221-183 triumph in the championship match over Bob Handley, for his first PBA title.

Baker waited one game while non-champions Rickie Sajek and John Gant went at it, with Sajek winning, 209-177. Baker then overpowered Sajek with a booming, 268-206, win.

In the next match Baker closed with a three-bagger to outscore Joe Salvemini, 194-180, setting up the title game against Handley, the 1981 winner at Don Carter's Kendall Lanes, who had averaged 231 for 42 games.
