Tapp Tops Webb

Frustrated with his role as a continual bridesmaid, Charlie Tapp celebrated his first PBA championship following a 229-208 triumph over Wayne Webb in the $100,000 Seattle Open.

Tied after four frames, Tapp, S. St. Paul, Minn., strung four strikes through the eighth and Webb never caught him. "It seems like a real burden has been lifted from my back," the champion proclaimed after his victory, worth $13,000.

In the opening game, Henry Gonzalez defeated Gil Sliker, 210-188, before falling to Amleto Monacelli, 246-219. Webb then stopped Monacelli, 238-184, to earn his spot in the championship match.
