Five-foot-4 inch Norm Duke assumed the role of the giant-killer in knocking off four PBA champions to become the PBA Tour's youngest national champion ever after capturing the $110,000 Cleveland Open. The 18-year-old Duke downed Tom Milton, 238-204, in the title game, which netted him the $15,000 first prize. Labeled a "can't miss" talent when he joined the Tour full-time last tall, Duke began his championship march from the fifth-seeded position and Immediately was faced with the unenviable task of ousting Earl Anthony, which he did, 244-212. Next he chopped down Steve Cook, 246-187, and part-time pro John Wilcox, 237-192, to set the stage for the championship match-up.
