"It was one of my toughest wins ever," sighed a tired but happy Wayne Webb, minutes after winning the $110,000 Greater Miami Sunshine Open over Pete Weber, 218-201. The win was worth $15,000 for Webb. In the first game Walt Pulchlopek ousted Pete McCordic, 224-211, and Pulchlopek then had the tables turned on him by Sam Zurich, 216-204. Zurich then ran into a red-hot Weber and lost, 258-213, as Weber threw an opening five-bagger. The Weber-Webb championship game was a rematch from 1982 when Webb rolled to victory over Weber in the finals of the $100,000 Columbia 300 Open at Detroit and Weber undoubtedly had visions of gaining revenge. But Webb struck on his last six shots, shutting Weber out and thwarting his attempt for vengeance.
