It was the 34th time Earl Anthony won a PBA tournament but the first time he'd ever done it coming from the fourth or fifth-seeded position as he nailed down the $20,000 top prize in the AMF MagicScore Open in Peoria, Ill. Anthony snuck into the final spot in the championship round and mowed down, in order, Mike Aulby, 189-141; Paul Moser, 236-226; George Pappas, 247-214; and Roy Buckley, 242-223. The title, along with his previous week's Rolaids Open win, marked the fifth time in Anthony's career he captured back-to-back titles. The 42-year-old lefthander rolled 914 for four games while bringing his streak for two weeks of TV matches to seven in-a-row.
