Flirting with elimination through all phases of the tournament, veterans Tommy Hudson and Pete Couture displayed some great come-from-behind bowling to win the $100,000 Showboat PBA Doubles Classic. After qualifying 12th for the 12-team match play segment and rallying to secure the fourth and final spot for the TV finals, Hudson and Couture advanced to beat top-seeded Mark Roth and Marshall Holman in a thrilling 466-464 championship match to split the $20,000 first prize. Hudson finished with six straight strikes to help his team overcome a 20-pin deficit against Roth and Holman who were looking for their third doubles crown in four years. For the three stepladder matches, Hudson unleashed 739 and anchorman Couture added 699 to the winning effort.
