Mark Roth continued to bowl as if he owned King Louie West Lanes as he triumphed in the $80,000 King Louie Open for the third time since 1975. Top seeded going into the finals, Roth overpowered Eddie Ressler, 246-197, in the title game to record his second victory on the PBA's 1979 Winter Tour. Ressler had gained access to the final game with a 269-204 victory over Jimmy Certain after Certain had defeated Alvin Lou, 231-221, and Wayne Zahn, 245-172. It was Roth's 18th PBA crown in five years, after capturing his first win in the 1975 King Louie Open with 299 in his final game.
