Roth Blooms In Portland

Mark Roth, who began the final round in ninth place, defeated tournament leader Earl Anthony in the final match for the $6,000 top prize in the $60,000 City of Roses Open at Portland's Timber Lanes.

The victory was Roth's fifth of the year. He outlasted Anthony, 188-169, in the tense championship match, and Pete McCordic was able to move into a tie for the runnerup spot with Anthony by virtue of a 230 in his final game.

In the final round, Roth won seven of eight matches and averaged more than 230 pins per game.
