Mike Berlin and Jimmy Certain, a pair of tournament-toughened players, defeated three other teams to win the $75,000 Columbia-PBA Doubles Classic to open the Summer Tour. Berlin. Muscatine, Iowa, and Certain. Huntsville, Ala., defeated top-seeded Dale Glenn and Jay Robinson, 460-328, to take home top prize of $12,000. The title was Berlin's fifth in a three-year PBA career, while Certain was entering the winner's circle for the first time since he joined the PBA Tour in the late-1960s. Berlin sparkled before a national television audience (NBC). He fired same of 268, 204 and 258 for 730, while Certain contributed a 592 total despite suffering from a painful blood blister on his ring finer.
