Steve Westberg won his first title by rolling away from a star-studded field in the $65,000 Great Adventure Open. The lefthanded Westberg, competing in his first full year on the tour, earned $7,000. Mark Roth and Louie Moore exchanged the lead early in the tournament until Westberg grabbed command at the end of the 18 qualifying games. He surrendered the lead early in match play, then regained it and never faltered. Westberg averaged 218 for the 42 games and finished with a 239-pin margin over Moore. Roy Buckley finished third, Larry Laub fourth and Tommy Hudson fifth. Paul Colwell rolled the tournament's only 300 during qualifying play. 42-GAME TOTALS | | | Name, City/State | | Pins | | WLT | | + | | Tot | | Amt | | | 1 | | Steve Westberg, Cottage Grove, Ore. | | 9157 | | 15-9-0 | | 450 | | 9607 | | $7,000 | | 2 | | Louie Moore, Columbus, Ohio | | 8888 | | 16-8-0 | | 480 | | 9368 | | 4,000 | | 3 | | Roy Buckley, Columbus, Ohio | | 8913 | | 14-10-0 | | 420 | | 9333 | | 3,000 | | 4 | | Larry Laub, San Francisco | | 8929 | | 13-11-0 | | 390 | | 9319 | | 2,500 | | 5 | | Tommy Hudson, Akron, Ohio | | 8906 | | 13-11-0 | | 390 | | 9296 | | 2,000 | | 6 | | Rich Carrubba, Hayward, N.J. | | 8701 | | 15-9-0 | | 450 | | 9151 | | 1,800 | | 7 | | Frankie May, West Reading, Pa. | | 8790 | | 12-12-0 | | 360 | | 9150 | | 1,700 | | 8 | | Mark Roth, Staten Island, N.Y. | | 8677 | | 15-9-0 | | 450 | | 9127 | | 1,600 | | 9 | | Johnny Petraglia, Staten Island, N.Y. | | 8755 | | 12-12-0 | | 360 | | 9115 | | 1,500 | | 10 | | John Denton, Midland, Tex. | | 8652 | | 15-9-0 | | 450 | | 9102 | | 1,400 | | 11 | | Pete Couture, Windsor, .
