Roth, Holman Double Their Pleasure
Youngsters Mark Roth and Marshall Holman rolled to an easy victory in the $55,000 PBA Doubles Classic. After grabbing the lead midway through the first round of match play competition, the duo continued to pull away from the field and eventually posted a decisive 451-pin victory over runnersup Don Johnson and Paul Colwell, the defending champions. Roth and Holman, who averaged five pins a game better than Johnson and Colwell for the 36 games with a norm of 215, each won $5,000. Johnson and Colwell jumped into second place over the father-son combo of Dick and John Weber when Colwell tossed a 278 in the final position round game. The Webers dropped to fourth while a pair of non-champions, Mike Alfieri and Emmett Shutes, finished third. The team posted a 9-3 match play record to advance from the 11th qualifying position. 36-GAME TOTALS
