Tommy Hudson became the first two-time winner on the 1977 tour when he defeated Don Bell in the title match of the $75,000 Fair Lanes Open. Bell, who tossed a 300 in the position round to jump from eighth to third, finished with seven strikes in a row to defeat Louie Moore and earn the right to bowl topseeded Hudson.
