Tommy Hudson rang up an impressive victory in the $80,000 Monro-Matic Open by defeating Mark Roth, 256-215, in the title match. Roth, who reached the title match by defeating Jim Stefanich, 266-245, and Steve Jones. 245-224, saw his strike ball abandon him in the final game. However, Hudson found the line in the third frame and finished in impressive fashion, striking on nine of his last 10 shots. The victory earned Hudson $10,000. Seven perfect games were recorded during preliminary play, including one each by Hudson and fellow TV finalist Wayne Webb.
