Earl Anthony was off to his best start ever when he won the $80,000 Lite Classic. He easily defeated Keith Craycraft, 237-207, and then top-seeded Marshall Holman, 258-202, in the final two games of the PBA's season opener. Anthony closed with seven game-winning strikes against Holman for the $10,000 first prize offered by the Miller Brewing Company, sponsors of the Lite Classic. Les Zikes and Dr. Farrell Hinkle, a local favorite, also made it into the finals. Butch Soper rolled a 300 game during preliminary play.
