Berlin Bumps Buckley

Mike Berlin registered his initial tour victory in the $50,000 AMF-PBA Regional Champions Classic.

Berlin, Muscatine, Iowa, upset top-seeded Roy Buckley, Columbus, Ohio, defending champion in the pinfest, 211-171, to claim first prize of $6,000.

Berlin qualified second behind Buckley for the showdown. They were joined by veteran Dick Weber, St. Louis, Mo., J. B. Blaylock, La Luz, N.M., Joe Berardi, Pearl River, N.Y., and Nelson Burton Jr., St. Louis.

Buckley started impressively, opening with strike-spare-strike, but then suffered the first of two 5-7 splits in the fourth and seventh frames. Berlin became stronger as the game progressed and he finished with four strikes on his last five tosses for the crown.
