Jim Stefanich rolled to his 13th career victory when he defeated Jim Godman, 206-203, in the title game of the $65,000 Denver Open. The finale was almost a rematch of the exciting action of match game play on Friday, when Stefanich led after 32 games, then slipped to second as Godman won six of eight games and averaged 233 to take over the top spot. The two veterans were virtually pin for pin throughout the first six frames, then Stefanich gave Godman an opening when he chopped a 3-10 split in the seventh frame. Godman failed to capitalize on it, however, because of his next ball in the same frame, he left a 5-7. Godman finished with 203 and Stefanich needed a high count on a spare ball or a strike and eight pins to win. He got the strike, added a spare and grabbed a three-pin victory.
