Earl Anthony, Tacoma, Wash., won the $60,000 Greater Los Angeles Open at Bowling Square in Arcadia, Calif., in the finals, 247-216. The victory, Anthony's 14th in his career, made him the winningest lefthander in the history of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA). Anthony first eliminated Larry Laub, San Francisco, Calif., 236-186, after Laub had ousted fifth place Paul Colwell, Tucson, Ariz., 226-182. Anthony then defeated another Californian, veteran Ed Bourdase, San Jose, 238-213, and that set up the battle for the title between the two roommates.
