Totaling 676 for his three games, veteran Dave Davis outslugged another southpaw, Skee Foremsky, 216-172 in thetitle game, to claim victory in the rich $65,000 San Jose Open, one of the oldest stops on the PBA tour. Tall, skinny Davis, who was taking his 12th career title, walked away with the $10,000 first place prize by downing Nelson Burton Jr., 216-170; Earl Anthony, 244-237, in a thrilling match, and then Foremsky, who was trying for his second crown in 1970 and who had taken 13 of his 16 match games one day before. There was one 300 game in the competition, that by Eddy Patterson, whose perfect showing still failed to get him on the money list.
