DAVE SOUTAR, a transplanted Detroiter now residing in Gilroy, Calif., came "home" to the Motor City and found the home hearth much to his liking. The lanky veteran scored a come-from-behind 213-202 victory over Dick Ritger to take the winner's share in the American Airlines Open at Hartfield Lanes. Except for one block in the early going when New York's Dick Battista took over the lead, Dave was in command all the way. He led the qualifying round with a 24-game showing of 5099 (212 average) and in the very first match game kayoed his chief threat-Dick Weber-by a going-away 214-148. In the 14th game of the finals, Ritger caught and passed Soutar by 41 pins. Soutar met the challenge, scored a crucial turkey and nailed down the win. 40-GAME FINALS | | | Name, City/State | | Pins | | WLT | | + | | Tot | | Amt | | | 1 | | Dave Soutar, Gilroy, Calif. | | 8423 | | 10-4-2 | | 550 | | 8973 | | $6,000 | | 2 | | Dick Ritger, Hartford, Wise. | | 8393 | | 11-5-0 | | 550 | | 8943 | | 3,200 | | 3 | | Don Johnson, Kokomo, Ind. | | 8400 | | 9-7-0 | | 450 | | 8850 | | 2,500 | | 4 | | Dick Weber, St. Louis, Mo. | | 8288 | | 11-5-0 | | 550 | | 8838 | | 2,000 | | 5 | | Jim Stefanich, Joliet, Ill. | | 8240 | | 10-6-0 | | 500 | | 8740 | | 1,500 | | 6 | | Billy Hardwick, Louisville, Ky. | | 8294 | | 8-8-0 | | 400 | | 8694 | | 1,300 | | 7 | | Roy Buckley, Columbus, Ohio | | 8189 | | 9-6-1 | | 475 | | 8664 | | 1,250 | | 8 | | Bill Johnson, New Orleans, La. | | 8222 | | 8-8-0 | | 400 | | 8622 | | 1,200 | | 9 | | Mike Durbin, Dayton, Ohio | | 8201 | | 7-9-0 | | 350 | | 8551 | | 1,150 | | 10 | | Johnny Guenther, Seattle, Wash. | | 8205 | | 6-10-0 | | 300 | | 8505 | | 1,100 | | 11 | | Barry Asher, Costa Mesa, Calif. | | 8046 | | 9-7-0 | | 450 | | 8496 | | 1,050 | | 12 | | Mike McGrath, El Cerrito, Calif. | | 8113 | | 7-9-0 | | 350 | | 8463 | | 1,000 | | 13 | | Tim Harahan, Canoga, Park, Calif. | | 8107 | | 6-10-0 | | 300 | | 8407 | | 950 | | 14 | | Dick Battista, New York, N.
