Zahn Back On Top

Wayne Zahn, the 1966 "Bowler of the Year," finally made contact in 1967 by winning the $27,500 Durham Open in a wild finish.

Zahn went into the final game of the tourney in third place and then proceeded to "knock 'em dead" with a 279 game which gave him a three-pin win over Jim Stefanich.

The $3,000 first-place check raised Zahn into fifth place in the money standings with earnings of $28,480. Leading money winner Dave Davis popped a 300 game in the Pro-Am to hike his earnings to $44,115. Stefanich collected $1,500 to move within a whisper of Davis at $43,575.
