Johnson Coasts At Seattle
The "Kokomo Kid" was at his very best and it was no contest in the Summer opener at Seattle.
Don Johnson went into the position round with a 310-pin lead and it didn't matter that he lost it. Wayne Zahn pumped all the way from 14th place to finish second and Bill Johnson wound up third.
Don was second to Harry Johnson in the 24-game qualifier. But, he knocked off Harry in the first game and won seven and tied one of his first eight games to take a commanding lead.
Harry supplied a thrill or two when he came within 24 pins of setting a new six-game qualifying record. Harry shot a big 1517 in the third qualifying block to almost best Jim Dunston's 1541 set in Dallas last year.
Promoter Jim Otto put 410 amateurs through the mill to establish a new high in this department on the summer tour.
