"Hale" In Southern California

Jerrry Hale, a Richmond, Calif. truck driver, wasn't to be denied. After losing a "tie" the week before, Hale came back in the Southern California Open with an easy victory.

Hale led through the 40-game stretch and then defeated Billy Hardwick, 205-190, in the championship game to capture the $5,000 first prize.

It was Hale's first major tournament title and he had this to say: "I got to thinking about going back to that truck and decided to do something about it."
