Bill Allen led the 24-game qualifier by 191 pins but he had trouble hanging on to win a four-pin decision and the Professional Bowlers Association $24,500 Canadian Open at Montreal.
After knocking down 5146 pins over the first '24 games, the Orlando, Fla., lefthander took seven of his 16 matches to total 8838. Jack Biondolillo of Houston, meanwhile, was making tracks as he was victorious in 13 of his 16 games. Biondolillo wound up second after finishing eighth in the qualifier.
This was Allen's fourth PBA championship of the year and seventh overall. And, it boosted the slender southpaw back into the money lead with earnings of $24,642. Billy Hardwick, the previous week's leader, was in second place with $23,960.
