First-time finalist Eric Adolphson prolonged the frustrations of PBA tournament leading qualifiers and advanced from the fifth-seeded position to capture the $125,000 Seattle Open at Skyway Park Bowl. Adolphson, Danville, Calif., defeated leading qualifier Dave D'Entremont, 234-161, to collect the $18,000 first prize and earn a berth into the 1993 Firestone Tournament of Champions. Both players opened the championship game with strikes, but D'Entremont, Parma, Ohio, opened in his second frame, while Adolphson added two more strikes. When D'Entremont missed a 10-pin conversion in the sixth frame, Adolphson had extended his lead to 41 pins and coasted home from there. The first of ABC-TV's eight Summer Tour broadcasts began with Adolphson defeating hard-luck Mark Thayer of Lafayette, Ind., 225-205, and then Dave Traber of Woodstock, Ill., who was appearing in his second consecutive finals, 199-146. In the semifinal game, Adolphson bombed Detroit's Harry Sullins, who was the only champion among the final five, 249-194. D'Entremont earned $9,500 as runnerup, Sullins cashed for $7,000, Traber collected $5,500 for fourth and Thayer $4,500.
