"I've got an edge now!" David Ozio proclaimed, after his 10th PBA title and fourth of the year in the $150,000 Chevy Truck Classic at Marcel's Olympic Bowl. Ozio, Vidor, Texas, also surpassed $200,000 in yearly earnings with his $27,000 payday in upsetting leading qualifier Marc McDowell, 235-160. PBA President Marc McDowell, Madison, Wis., opened in the first frame, spared twice and then opened again in his fourth before striking in the fifth frame, but then trailed Ozio by 58 pins. McDowell earned $14,000 for his second painful runner-up finish of the year, after easily assuming the tournament lead in the 42-game format. In the opening game of the NBC Sports telecast, Pete Weber struck out in the 10th frame to overtake Del Ballard, Jr., Richardson, Texas, 247-246. Weber, Florissant, Mo., had the same opportunity in his next game, but a stubborn 4-pin against Bryan Goebel halted his advance. In the semifinal game, Goebel, Merriam, Kan., left the 2-4-5-8 "bucket" on his final shot, which allowed Ozio the chance to strike out and win, which he did, 246-244, earning the decision in a third consecutive thrilling match.
